Why you should be “Vlogging”
Posted by admin on March, 23rd 2011
It might sound a bit like the latest fad, but “vlogging” or video blogging is here to stay. This is because Google bought Youtube in 2006, showing that the search giant had video search firmly in it’s sights five years ago and now videos appear in search results.
Video blogging has its disadvantages, but with the right support the benefits could be lucrative.
Let’s get the disadvantages of video blogging out of the way first: visitors with a poor internet connection may struggle to view your content and leave your website before they view your content. Also, if you’re new to video editing, it can be a time consuming task, plus poor production values can look unprofessional, defeating the object of video blogging! Some people feel very shy and self-conscious in front of a camera so it is important to choose someone who is confident and comfortable facing the camera.
So why should you put in this level of effort to ‘vlog’?
- People get to hear your voice and see you smile, but it isn’t quite as simple as that. One of the downsides of the internet always used to be that there was no real human interaction. People essentially, buy people so giving your blog a human face and voice gives you the edge over your faceless competitors.
- Many internet users are fickle and just scan read. Vlogging takes away the effort of reading for customers who roll their eyes when they see a large block of text.
- Some messages are easier to show rather than tell. If you feel as though you have writer’s block then give video blogging a go.
- If you don’t consider yourself a good writer and don’t feel confident in your spelling or grammar, vlogging offers you the opportunity to side step these difficulties and be yourself without worrying about punctuation, syntax and the different spellings of ‘there’.
- As Google owns Youtube, the incentive is there for Google to really perfect its algorithm over the next few years so now is the time for your company to invest in perfecting video skills. Google is starting to add automatic subtitles to videos on Youtube, one day these words will be more accurate and work towards SEO showing the video’s content in HTML text.
