Are you killing your own business?

business noose Are you killing your own business? When you set up your own business, it is quite literally your baby. You work evenings and weekends, forgo holidays and nights out with your friends just to get ahead. When you have poured so much time, love and energy in your business, it can be hard to take constructive criticism, particularly when taking note would make a lot more work for you.

So how can you take a step back  and take a more objective look at the way you operate your business and see if you’re making mistakes? The first thing you can do is to ask for feedback from friends, colleagues and customers. It’s hard to hear less complimentary words said about your business but if people tell you the truth with no malice then you’re in a great position to grow and adapt and become stronger in the long run.

Do you think you might be guilty of sabotaging your own business? We have listed five questions you can ask yourself to see if you really are killing your own business…

1. Are you slow to react to bad customer feedback? If you’re told the same thing time and again but don’t react then you are wasting time you could spend devising a more effective internet marketing strategy or making the most of your offline marketing activities.

2. Is there a PR disaster waiting to happen, for example, do you know how to handle customer data properly? You might not be anywhere as near as big as Sony Playstation, but they faced a huge public relations disaster when files were hacked and it emerged that usernames and passwords were stored in an unencrypted file! It will take their PR agency years to undo that terrible faux pas!

3. Are you stuck in the past? If you are in the process of getting your business online, are you sure that the techniques your web design company and internet marketing agency are using are future-proofed as much as possible and considers SEO from the outset.

4. Have you forgotten how to upload content to your website? An important part of a sound internet marketing strategy is to ensure that fresh written content appears on your website regularly. The worst thing you can do is let people think that your website has been forgotten about.

5. Are your marketing communications part of your brand identity? There is nothing worse than sending out emails or letters that are dull and off-brand. A marketing company worth their salt will advise you to decide on brand standards and show you how to apply them across multi-channel communications.

If you haven’t been making these mistakes, congratulations! If you think it might be time to give your online business a make over then talk to JPR Marketing and see what we can do to help resurrect your website with internet marketing.
