How to boost your Twitter traffic

Twitter can be a fantastic tool for any marketer. Use it well and you could experience great results, but it isn’t always easy to get the necessary traffic. So just how can you get the boost you need? Well, here are a few tips to get you started:

Utilise apps

Whilst using the desktop version of Twitter is all well and good, if you’re tweeting for commercial or marketing purposes it makes much more sense to use one of the many apps available instead. You’ll be able to find those that can accommodate multiple accounts (such as Tweet Adder or Tweet Deck), those that automatically tweet your blog posts (like TwitterFeed), those that can get you targeted followers (such as TweetBig) and even those that can be used for all your social media platforms at once (HootSuite), and with many of them coming with great stats and tracking applications you could soon see if your efforts are paying off.

Provide great content

You might only have 140 characters in which to astound your audience, but content is still king. Make sure your tweets are witty, informative, suited to your target audience and grammatically correct, and of course you’re free to post and share links as you see fit. Make sure it isn’t all about you though—be too self-centred and you won’t get the results you’re looking for, so always remember to tweet about wider industry happenings as well. Not only will it show you’re sociable (see below) but it’s also a great opportunity to solidify yourself as an authority in the sector, and if you post links to top-quality posts on your own site you’ll get even more recognition.

Be sociable

Social networking is all about being social, and that means you need to interact with your followers to get the most impact. Twitter is certainly not a one-way street—if you keep tweeting about yourself and fail to interact you won’t win any fans, so make sure to be sociable. Respond to tweets, show some personality, start conversations rather than using it as your own personal advertising board—do it well and you’ll soon notice the difference.

These are just a few ways that you can get more Twitter traffic, and if you bear them in mind your social marketing plan could soon start paying off.
